My Violet Wand Experience

Lex Adams

I have been interested in BDSM most of my adult life and have been actively involved for over 20 years as a dominant, I have been playing with Violet Wands for over 20 years. Learning a variety of techniques and increasing my knowledge of how to use them in a variety of ways. I have been involved within the BDSM community for a number of years and feel that a Violet Wand in experienced hands is an incredible toy. I have been sourcing older style VW's, repairing and restoring them for a number of years.

While learning the basics of how to use a VW isn’t difficult and you can be safely using one after a few minutes instruction, I advise anyone who has more than a passing curiosity to seek out someone who is qualified or attend a workshop in your local area to learn more about this fantastic piece of equipment.

I hold Violet Wand demonstrations at the monthly BDSM social evenings I host here on the
NSW Central Coast. I am also available to conduct workshops, skill share sessions and can provide private tuition.

For the last few years I have been affiliated with Electic Electric in the USA and am their service provider and representative in Australia.

I have been using the violet wand techniques as described on their web site to good effect and with very satisfying results. I could go on to expound how I do what I do but basically you cant go wrong if you use the material on Violet Wanda’s web site as a guide and to give you some direction. With some care and foreknowledge most people will be fine using their wands to good effect in no time at all but I believe that to get the best out of your electrical play it would benefit you to take part in some workshops or skill share sessions with a suitably qualified instructor. There is no substitute for experience and the best way of gaining that is through those workshops etc.

My basic learning and teaching techniques are to watch carefully something being done, like a demonstration or some violet wand play. Talk to the person who was conducting the demo or scene. Have them, (or some other suitably experienced person), assist you or walk you through it step by step with you doing the actual practice, then some more discussion regarding what happened and how you faired and what you could do to improve your performance. Lastly for you to go and conduct your own scene with the knowledge you gained.

When I conduct a workshop I break it up into 7 sections but have the sections flow smoothly from one to the next.

1 – Introduction. A basic talk about violet wands, including a brief history and what we are actually going to be doing on the day.

2 – Question and Answer session where all manner of things are discussed.

3 – A practical demonstration of the violet wand covering a variety of uses and demonstrating Direct, Indirect and Reverse applications. (I bring my own assistant to demonstrate on as you can never rely on how volunteers are going to react when a violet wand is used on them for the first time and nothing wrecks a good demonstration as fast as a scared novice).

4 – A second question and answer session to cover what just happened.

5 – Time for the workshop attendee’s to have the opportunity for some “hands on” experience. I usually take 3 or 4 violet wands to a demonstration and my assistant is capable of providing instruction and assistance so things run more smoothly, especially with a larger group.

6 – Yes question time again, a third question and answer session. (you would be surprised and the number of questions a hands on demo elicits).

7 – End of formal session. Time to socialize and do some networking, discussing things more in depth with some of the attendee’s. Maybe doing a little less formal play with the violet wand and possibly arranging some contacts for future workshops or instructional sessions.

I generally allow an hour for part 1 to 6 and find for the most part I can cover what I have planed in about 45 to 50 minutes.

I regularly get invited to parties or events to conduct some electrical play amongst other things and at those times I use an abridged version of the above steps.

I personally use the same techniques as described on Violet Wanda’s web site for Direct, Indirect and Reverse Applications and draw heavily on the site information for any advanced play I do privately.

I can highly recommend Violet Wanda ( Electic Electric) as reputable and innovative leaders in the field. Their web site, product range and much much more can be found at …  http://home.earthlink.net/~violetwanda/wands.html

(Please check out Violet Wanda's web site for up to date, informative, well researched information that educates in a clear and concise manner as well as dispelling some of the myths surrounding violet wands and their uses).

Outside of BDSM, I own a small natural therapies business, (Magic Hands Therapies), and use massage therapy, aromatherapy, ultrasonic therapy and electrotherapy to treat my clients with a holistic approach towards good health and well being. We use a variety of massage techniques as well as aromatherapy oils which we blend ourselves. I also use ultrasonic therapy on muscle injuries and for the last few years I have been using my violet wand more and more with good results being obtained.

I know, I know, violet wands were considered to be a quack medical device from the turn of the 19th century to the late 50’s. They were supposed to be a cure all and some amazing claims were made with regard to their successes. Many of those have since been discounted but I have found over the past few years that many clients of mine have benefited to some degree from the application of my good old violet wand.

I consider this to be somewhat of a holistic approach to health and well being that encompasses a variety of treatments and doesn’t just rely on the violet wand as a stand alone “cure all”. I use my violet wand in conjunction with the massage we do and have often used it in the application of aromatherapy oils to various parts of the body. I also use a Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation or TENS as a part of what it is that we do.  I believe that in many ways the violet wand was the for-runner of the modern TENS unit and that in some ways they perform similar tasks if in a dissimilar way. I also believe that the violet wand is far more versatile and gains better results than that of TENS.

The human body’s nerves are electrical conductors, and stimulating nerve endings with small electrical current can produce beneficial results. The theory behind electrotherapy as part of holistic treatment and care is that it stimulates nerve endings and increases the flow of blood in the small subcutaneous blood vessels thereby promoting some degree of pain relief and faster healing.

The pain relief comes from an endorphin release as the body’s nerves are stimulated with the violet wand. Small amounts of ozone are also produced that assist with sterilizing areas treated.

Electrotherapy in one way or another has been a proven pain management technique, and as such, is part of an overall treatment regimen. Electrotherapy is usually involved in the early treatment stages, especially right after an injury. Ice and/or heat therapy may be combined with electrotherapy to boost its pain-killing powers.

High-frequency electro stimulation means that finite amounts of electrical currents are delivered to the treatment site by using shaped glass treatment heads that are placed in light contact with the skin over the injury site. High-frequency, (violet wand), electro therapy can improve conditions such as soft-tissue injury, pressure sores, migraine headache, post-operative pain and much more.

I have had particular success with treating arthritic joints and gout, providing recognizable levels of relief.  It offers a safe and non invasive means of treatment that affects the body in a positive way

Electrotherapy does not interfere with existing medical treatment, and operates without adverse side effects in normal circumstances.  Simply put I use a violet wand for remedial application in ‘pain relief’ and to aid healing so as to be effective and beneficial.

Almost all nervous and muscular pain can be lessened by high frequency currents. So High Frequency Therapy is an aid to pain relief for suffers of all ages.

Some of the problems Violet Wand Therapy can help relieve:

  • Headache & Migraine
  • Arthritis, Gout & Rheumatic Pain
  • Muscle Pain, Backache & Spasms
  • Lumbago & Sciatica
  • Poor Circulation, Chilblains & Cramp
  • Sprains, Strains, Bruises & Swellings
  • Neuralgia
  • Stomach Cramp, Nervous Tension
  • Varicose Veins
  • Boils, Moles, Pimples and Warts
  • Eczema, Dermatitis & Psoriasis
  • Wounds & Calluses
  • Lines, Wrinkles & Minor Skin Blemishes

The benefits are :-

Reduces painful symptoms

Decreases local swelling

Promotes muscle tone

Restores normal movements

Releases the body’s natural pain killers, (Endorphins)

Accelerates the healing process

Electro Therapy is a therapeutic treatment to aid in the relief of pain and the promotion of soft tissue healing. Most patients say Electro Therapy is beneficial and describe the treatment as a “pins and needles” sensation.

It is used for pain relief and to aid in reducing the swelling of soft tissues. Ligament sprains, muscle strains and spasms often respond to this treatment, helping to reduce atrophy and increase blood circulation.

Pain relief management through cellular electro therapy can be used for a variety of patients with wide of range of physical ailments and conditions.

The human body functions through electrical conductivity, with different currents flowing through connective channels, such as muscle, bone, and neural tissue. I believe when a person is injured, the body’s normal conductivity in the damaged cells and tissues is frequently altered. With a series of electro therapy treatments, the damaged area becomes opened to circulation and reparative ions so that the body can begin its own natural healing process.

Electro stimulation often provides the best initial phase of treatment for many injuries, especially those that are too painful for traditional physical therapy.

Pain relief therapy through cellular electro stimulation is usually achieved with little or no discomfort, and noticeable results are usually felt with three to five sessions, at 10 to 15 minutes each.

Electro stimulation of cells has shown positive results for many kinds of ailments and disorders, including pain relief therapy for the following:

Arthritis, Tendonitis, Neuritis, Broken bones, Carpal tunnel syndrome, Spinal cord injuries, Scar tissue repair, Fibrous tissue breakups, and cysts …and much more.

In conclusion those out there who own a violet wand may want to investigate a little more and realize that as well as having a really great toy to use within BDSM play you also have a very effective way of aiding in the treatment of all sorts of ailments and disorders.

We are only limited by the scope of our own imagination.

Be well, be safe and enjoy,
